Vector-borne diseases have severely affected the national Capital, with cases of dengue, chikungunya and Japanese encephalitis on a steep rise
With the changing weather, the number of people testing positive for dengue are also increasing. Seventeen more tested positive for dengue in the city, with the total number of people affected by the mosquito-borne disease going up to 837.

Apart from dengue, this time it's chikungunya that is giving the officials and medicos sleepless nights. According to the officials with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), another mosquito-borne disease, chikungunya, is becoming a cause of worry for the city people as well as the civic agency, as the number of affected people this year has shot up to 57.
"Chikungunya is not as fatal as dengue. But this sudden rise is a cause of worry. Last year, when almost the entire city was dug up, the number of cases during this time of the year was only 33," said Dr V K Monga, chairman, Health department, MCD.
Monga also said another 17 people have tested positive for dengue virus since Saturday. "In the last one day, hospitals have diagnosed 17 dengue cases and the total number of people affected by it now stands at 837," he said.
With people also testing positive for Japanese encephalitis in the city, the Delhi government and the MCD have decided to collect 500 blood samples of pigs to check the presence of the virus in them. Fourteen people have been affected by Japanese encephalitis in the last two months, the worried officials informed.
