Following repeated complaints from different political parties Chief Election Commissioner S.Y Quraishi has removed Director General of Police Y. Joykumar Singh ahead of assembly elections in poll bound Manipur.

"Though political parties had been complaining-and our own perceptions and intelligence gathering, we feel that it was necessary to change the DGP and we had ordered in the morning that the new DGP would be Ratnakar Baral, he has already taken over in the afternoon," said Quraishi.

"There were some complaints that MLAs and ministers are still misusing their official vehicles and work orders are still being given, which is in violation of the model code of conduct. We have asked the chief secretary to advise all the MLAs and ministers to stop this practice forthwith from today because from tomorrow we will come down heavily and seize these vehicles, we will challan them, we will file FIRs," said Quraishi.
