Perfume designer Monika Ghurde was found murdered at her home in North Goa’s Sangolda village on October 6. Here are some shocking developments that have taken place in the case since.
Discovery of Monika Ghurde’s naked body
Monika Ghurde’s body in naked condition was found in the burgled flat in Goa. Rather, shockingly, her hands and legs were found tied to a bed. The autopsy of Monika Ghurde confirmed the suspicion that Ghurde had been strangled, revealing that the death was caused “due to asphyxia caused by compression of mouth and neck”.
Watchman sexually assaulted Monika, showed her porn
Following the arrested accused Rajkumar Singh’s confession that he had removed celebrity perfumer Monika Ghurde’s clothes to sexually assault her, the Goa police added the charge of rape against him. Singh admitted that he removed Ghurde’s clothes and tied her to the bed, then proceeded to show her three porn clips on his phone before sexually assaulting her. He added that he wanted revenge after she got him fired for stealing her umbrella in August.

How cops tracked murderer
All the police had to do to track down celebrity perfumer Monika Ghurde’s killer was follow the simple breadcrumbs trail he left behind. How? After strangulating her, he took her cellphone and two ATM cards and used them uninhibited. He was ultimately arrested in Bengaluru. Three days after Monika’s naked body was found in her apartment in Sangolda village, Goa, the police — in a joint operation between Goa, Mangalore and Bengaluru teams — nabbed Rajkumar, a Bhatinda native, in Bengaluru.

He was a security guard and had worked in Sapna Raj, the building complex where Ghurde was living in and planning to move out of. Singh became the main suspect after he withdrew cash from an ATM machine in Porvorim, just 5 km from the scene of the crime, on the morning of October 6. The police then procured CCTV footage from the ATM booth and identified him with the help of a photo available with them in a tenant verification form submitted to Porvorim Police. Later, while tracking her card swipes and phone use, the police managed to spot him in a CCTV grab in Bengaluru while he was checking in and out from a hotel there.
Watchman killed her in fit of rage
In August, Rajkumar had stolen her umbrella that was later found in his possession. A heated argument ensued between Ghurde and Rajkumar, following which his services were terminated by the upscale society. However, he had been unable to secure any employment after that and that could be the reason he killed her.
"Ma'am ka murder maine kiya." These are the chilling words spoken by the security guard, who seems unfazed even as he confesses to killing celebrity perfumer Monika Ghurde, leaving her naked in her home in Goa, her hands and feet tied to the bed. mid-day has sourced two videos of the accused, Rajkumar Singh, as he was arrested from a Bangalore hotel.
After he swiped her card at a hotel in Bangalore, the police caught a glimpse of him in the CCTV footage and then laid a trap for him. The first video shows Rajkumar entering the hotel again, while the cops wait for him in plainclothes. As soon as he enters, the police surround him and take him away for questioning. Soon after, in a second video, the 21-year-old confesses to the murder, seemingly remorseless.
