Glasgow: Celtic goalkeeper Lukasz Zaluska was knocked unconscious by two rivals footballers as he walked the street with his wife.

According to a report in the Daily Record, the goalkeeper was targeted in Ashton Lane in Glasgow's West End in the early hours of Tuesday morning. A witness told police that, whilst Zaluska roamed the street with his wife Magdalena, a rival footballer punched the Polish star twice - first on the side of the head and then in the face.

Zaluska then apparently keeled over in pain before another footballer appeared, taking off his jacket before running up to the Celtic player and hit him on the head. Zaluska then reportedly fell to the floor and was knocked out as he hit his head on the pavement.

The witness said that the second attacker then looked to make a sharp exit, saying " I shouldn't even be here. I'm a professional footballer" before fleeing in a taxi.

The Daily Record claim that an 'onlooker' believed the pair to have killed Zaluska, claiming: "He was unconscious for about three to four minutes. I thought at first he was dead." A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We are investigating a report of a 32-year-old man being assaulted in Ashton Lane in Glasgow in the early hours of Monday 20 October.

"Officers are checking CCTV images and inquiries are continuing." Police would not confirm reports that another Scottish Premiership player was involved in the incident. Zaluska signed for Celtic from Dundee United in 2009 and has mainly been the club's second choice goalkeeper. He has played twice for Celtic in the league this season and has one international cap for Poland.
