Centre of Excellence to come up at CoEP

A state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence that will offer students first-hand experience of latest instrumentation and control and image processing (2D and 3D) technologies will come up at the College of Engineering Pune (CoEP) shortly.

The prestigious college recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to the effect with the ‘ifm electronic’, a group of multi-national companies headquartered in Germany.

As a part of the proposed collaboration, the ifm electronic group is scheduled to set up a laboratory at CoEP by providing some of its latest sensors, controllers, displays and vision systems for the benefit of students and faculty.

“Our group will support student projects and research projects at post-graduate and PhD level at the proposed Centre of Excellence,” ifm electronic managing director Vishwas Udpikar said. “The college will use the Centre for effective learning by the students and giving opportunities to faculty to carry out applied research.”

CoEP director AD Sahasrabudhe said the collaboration with ifm electronic would help in achieving the objectives of giving learning opportunities to students on the latest instrumentation, control and image processing technologies and enable state-of-the-art research in these technologies.

The proposed Centre of Excellence is also expected to provide access to local industries for testing their application ideas based on ifm electronic group’s technologies, it was said.

The CoEP was recently awarded the second spot in the first ever survey of the Industry-linked engineering institutes in the country undertaken by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry during the current year.

Established in 1854, CoEP currently offers nine undergraduate and 23 post-graduate programmes, and has more than 3,200 students enrolled in its various courses.u00a0
