Rs 15 lakh each for kin of 18 missing in Muzaffarnagar riots

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday announced financial assistance of Rs 15 lakh each to families of the 18 persons who went missing in Muzaffarnagar riots of 2013, an official said.


Providing this information, a state government spokesman said that families of those killed in this incident were given a financial assistance of Rs 15 lakh each, of which Rs 13 lakh was given by the central government and Rs 2 lakh each was given by state government. The financial assistance being now given to the families of the missing persons will be given entirely from the resources of the state government.


More than 69 persons were killed in the communal frenzy in the western town of Muzaffarnagar after a case of harassment of women was mishandled by local police. Several people had gone missing in the violence and thousands were rendered homeless.
