Children's Academy (Malad) beat defending champions Don Bosco (Matunga) 3-2 in the final of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA)-Mumbai Indians U-14 inter-school knockout hockey tournament at the St Stanislaus Ground, Bandra on Saturday

Bryce Miranda opened the scoring for the Matunga school in the second minute after which Hemant Phadikar equalised via a penalty corner. Jay Agarwal then added a second for the Malad school only to see his effort cancelled out by Don Bosco’s Ayush Shetty.

Hemant however, got the winner in the second half to hand Children’s Academy their third title of the season. They have previously won the MSSA U-14 league besides the U-14 District Sports Office title. “Almost all the boys come from very humble backgrounds.

They practice on a small patch of tarmac. To beat Don Bosco was always going to be tough,” said Children’s Academy coach Marzban Patel.  Meanwhile, in the girls’ U-14 title match, Carmel of St Joseph (Malad) beat Durello Convent (Bandra) 1-0. Lynette Lobo scored the winner.
