Singer Avril Quadros releases her single, Want My Chocolate, to celebrate the urban woman's sexuality

What strikes you about Avril Quadros is her I-care-a-damn attitude. The perfomer, who "began singing before she walked or talked", has released her new single, Want My Chocolate, in time for Valentine's Day. She has dedicated the song, which has sexual overtones, to young, urban women.

She adds, "I'm promoting the single on my own without the help of a music label. It is currently on facebook, youtube, Vh1, SS Music TV channel, Worldspace and Chennai Live. I have got good support and rave reviews. Even Loy Mendonca liked it a lot."

"Why do some people find it so outrageous that many urban women are in the driving seat when it comes to relationships? Sex is a huge part of the modern woman's life, and like fine chocolate it has to be savoured not wasted," she remarks.

How Avril wrote the song is interesting. "When I was writing the lyrics and composing the music I intended it to be from an Indian woman's point of view, keeping in mind the recent attacks on young women."

Defining her target audience as young urban professionals, Avril insists, "In urban India, women are voicing their sexuality and using it responsibly. The angle that I have taken is that women have a say in what they want.

When a woman likes a man she goes out and gets him. She gets in and out of a relationship by choice. Want my chocolate is a synonym for I'm a responsible woman and I can choose."

Trained in Western and Indian classical music, she sings rock, jazz, blues and Bollywood songs with equal ease.

She has performed at over 500 shows, besides celebrity weddings, IT company events, clubs and hotels. "There is no better high for me than the applause of a happy audience," says Avril.

Decadent delights
Chocolate's aphrodisiac qualities are legendary. Putting a new spin on this creamy treat, an enterprising few are crafting bouquets of chocolate flowers, edible chocolate boxes (in which the solitaire nestles) and more. Regalar, which means To Gift in Spanish, offers sumptuous chocolates and promises to dedicate 5 per cent of your bill to a charitable cause. Besides heart-shaped chocolates in heart-shaped boxes, they also make heart-shaped cookies, cakes and heart-shaped lollypops. Email: regalargourmet@gmail.com

A line from Avril's song: ...Sincerity is not what you wear on your sleeve...you want my chocolate baby, but mine's not free...

At the end of the year we audit our lives in the year that has gone past and on Valentine's Day we audit our relationships. I will be celebrating Valentine's Day in Delhi with friends I haven't met in ages

I will be celebrating Valentine's Day with a group of friends. We usually end up at Terrace Nation in Koramangala, which is a nice place to hang out. They decorate the place very nicely. Their cakes are yummy
