Bridge ruled himself out of England's World Cup plans yesterday after releasing a statement that claimed his position was "untenable and potentially divisive".

The move comes after newspaper allegations about Terry's alleged affair with Bridge's former partner Vanessa Perroncel.

Bridge will come up against Terry for the first time since news of the scandal broke when City travel to Stamford Bridge this weekend and Given expects the left-back to rise to the occasion.

"He's fine and he's looking forward to the game and hopefully getting a good result," Given said.

"It's a massive game for everyone at the club, including Wayne. Shaun Wright-Phillips is going back to his old club as well and they are both looking forward to it."

Asked if he was surprised by Bridge's decision, Given said: "It's a personal thing for Wayne and a private one and I don't really want to comment on that situation.

"He is fine, Wayne Bridge is totally fine and he is looking forward to the game on Saturday and hopefully getting a good result for Manchester City, that's the most important thing."

The former Chelsea left-back has been considering his international future since reports of Terry's affair with his former partner Perroncel, a French underwear model with whom he has a four-year-old child, first came to light.

Terry was stripped of the England captaincy by manager Fabio Capello as a result of the scandal and the Italian had thought Bridge would continue to play for his country. With first choice left-back Ashley Cole out with an injury, Bridge would have lined up alongside Terry in the England defence in Wednesday's friendly against Egypt at Wembley.

It had also been claimed Bridge still feels so hurt by Terry that he may not even shake hands with the Chelsea captain during the pre-match pleasantries this weekend.
