Vaikunth Smashan Bhoomi, the city's oldest crematorium, will soon be revamped, as the civic body has approved Rs 1.87 crore for its revamping
The plan includes setting up of additional facilities like two new electronic furnaces and a new waiting room.
The funeral ground is spread across 17 acres and will be renovated in two phases. In the first phase, two additional electronic furnaces will be installed. The new hall and waiting room will also be constructed.

“Other existing facilities will be repaired and improved in the renovation project. Currently, there aren’t enough parking spaces, as only 30 four-wheelers and around 100 two-wheelers can park here.
Parking slots will be increased. All these modifications are in the first phase,” said Vishal Tambe, chairman of the Standing Committee, which approved the renovation plan.
In the second phase we will place emphasis on the beautification of the premises by planting trees, concretising roads and providing more benches,” he added.u00a0
