Pogba, formerly of City's local rivals Manchester United, posted a message on his Facebook page which said: "Qatar City 1-2 Juventus. Great win. Thank you for your support." Pogba may have mistaken the reference -- City's owner, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is actually from the ruling family of Abu Dhabi -- but the meaning of the French midfielder's post is unequivocal. Thanks to Sheik Mansour's financial clout, City are now one of the world's richest clubs.

City had been fancied to get the better of Juventus, given the Italians champions' terrible start to the Serie A season that has seen them plummet to 16th place after three games with only a point to their name.

But Manuel Pellegrini's expensively-assembled side were stunned in the last 10 minutes when former Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata got the winner for the visitors. Earlier in the match, Pogba had provided a superb cross to allowed Mario Mandzukic to level for the Serie A champions following Giorgio Chiellini's own goal.
