Classical call

Looking at the growing popularity of Bollywood, it would be safe to assume that nobody's attending classical concerts, right? Wrong!

When CS met Talat Aziz recently, he was of the opinion that there is a big audience for Indian classical music. “You should see the number of people who turn up to hear Rashid Ali Khan sing or to see Zakir Hussain perform.

Likewise, if you have a pure ghazal concert, there is pin drop silence in the theare.” Adding to that sentiment he tells us, “I started my career in 1980. It’s been 33 years and I’m still around. If I had been in any other profession, I wouldn’t have been able to survive.”
