Washington: A charity founded by former US President Bill Clinton has said it would review its policy of accepting foreign donation if former First Lady Hillary Clinton decides to seek presidential bid in 2016.

"Should Secretary Clinton decide to run for office, we will continue to ensure the Foundation's policies and practices regarding support from international partners are appropriate, just as we did when she served as Secretary of State," Clinton Foundation said in a statement yesterday.

The foundation, however, did not mentioned that it would not accept foreign donations if Hillary runs for president, an issue that is being raised by her opponents. Information available on its website shows that several individuals and organisations from India contribute regularly to the Clinton Foundation.

Like other global charities, the Clinton Foundation receives support from individuals, organisations and governments from all over the world, it said. "Contributions are made because the Foundation's programs improve the lives of millions of people around the globe.

The Clinton Foundation has a record of transparency that goes above what is required of US charities. This includes the voluntary disclosure of contributions on the Foundation's website," it said. In 2009, the foundation had stopped raising money from foreign governments after Hillary became US secretary of state.

The foundation run by the Clintons has come under scrutiny for its practices of raising money from foreign governments as Hillary considers a presidential bid. Though she has not announced her decision to run for the same, it is expected that she could announce it soon.
