Collector and staff to be relocated temporarily as work on redevelopmemt of current office building will begin after Diwali
The office of the district collector and additional collector is likely to shift into the new administrative building during the construction of a new building for the collector’s office.
District Collector Vikas Deshmukh said the new administrative building would be his first choice for setting up his office when the demolition of the collector’s office begins after Diwali.

The dismantling of the existing collector’s office will start after Diwali and the construction of the new building is slated to start in December. The construction work is to be completed in two years.
“My office will shift into the new place after the demolition work starts,” Deshmukh said. “There are three places in the city where my office can be shifted. However, considering the importance of the District Collectorate, I have given preference to the new administrative building, where my staff will also get sufficient space to work.”
The other two locations where the office of the district collector could be shifted are the old and new buildings of the Council Hall.
Public Works Development (PWD) Executive Engineer Atul Chavan said his department had also suggested that the new administrative building would be the right choice for the temporary location of the collector’s office.
“The District Collector will get a separate building which will also be safe as far as security is concerned,” Chavan said. “The office of the district collector and additional collector will be the last to shift.”
The new building of the collector’s office will have seven storeys. Five of these will be for offices and two for underground parking. The total construction will come up on 1.80 lakh sq ft, where all the offices under the District Collectorate will be housed.
“It will be environment-friendly and energy-efficient,” Chavan said. “There will be optimum use of natural light, thereby restricting the use of electricity.”
Around 18 various district offices located in the building of the district collector’s office, including the revenue office of Haveli prant and the home department of the collectorate, are still to shift to alternative locations. u00a0
