Although Manoj Bajpai is playing Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Sabir in Shootout At Wadala, the actor’s entire look in the film has been modeled after Pablo Escobar, the Colombian drug lord, who was killed gruesomely in 1993.
The resemblance to the notorious crimelord is so uncanny that director Sanjay Gupta claims that one can switch pictures of Escobar with Bajpai’s Wadala look without anyone being able to notice a difference.
Apparently no clear picture of Sabir’s look was available and rather than going by hazy portraits, Gupta and Bajpai decided to give the character a completely new look. Says Manoj, “Sanjay chose the look for my character and I went with Gupta’s decision.” Manoj won’t be playing a central role in Shootout At Wadala but he is happy playing a peripheral one.
