Eating healthy is probably not high on your list of priorities when you head to a Yummy Dogs stand.

with some flourish: chaps, let's make that a monster dog and don't skimp on the mayo.

The day we rolled down to the Yummy Dogs' stall on Carter Road, (they have ten stalls in the city, so far) outside Al's Tattoo parlour , we decided to first try their non-veg Indian Dog (Rs 69), which is served with a generous zig-zag of patriotic sauces that include the orange-ish Makhani, green chutney and eggless mayo.

The onions lend a nice flavour to the spicy dog, but we found the chicken sausage a little small or maybe the bread, though fresh, was too thick.

Next up, was the non-veg All-American Dog (Rs 69). The dog was juicy, and the caramelised onions complemented the BBQ and mayo sauces perfectly. This was good. Though, we wish they'd hold back the tomatoes. If you are not particularly ravenous or just small of appetite, you could opt instead for puppies (think young dog), which are roughly half the size of a regular hot dog (6.5 inches).

While non-vegetarians are likely to scoff at the concept of a vegetarian dog, let's remember that vegetarians comprise a significant market segment that's not to be sniffed at, a fact that the owners of Yummy Dogs seem keen to capitalise on. So, all the non-veg options are available as veg options too. The Veg Cheesy Hotdog (Rs 69) has a patty made of potatoes, American corn, green peas, carrots, soya, onions, garlic and mixed herbs.

It's served with grated cheese, crunchy cabbage and generous amounts of cheesy mayo. Nice, comfort food for broken-hearted vegetarians.

We were curious to try the Veg Lebanese Hotdog, which we thought might have falafel. Instead, it's what they call a "kababi flavoured hotdog" that comes with pickled vegetables, hummus and garlic mayo. Flavourful, robust and with just the right hint of sourness courtesy the pickled veggies.

Yummy Dogs also dishes out the deadly combo of potatoes and cheese as Yummy Cheesy Garlic Fries. Tough as it was, we desisted from trying it. Besides, how wrong can one go with the two!

Fish and diet hot dogs will soon find their way onto the menu in the weeks to come. And if you get thirsty, there will soon be Lemon and Peach Iced Tea to sip on here.

This is typically an eat-and-go joint, but the place being Carter Road you can still linger on the pavement, provided you are all right with getting jostled by teenyboppers and regular walkers. For entertainment, there's always Al's Tattoo Parlour and their interesting clientele to peer at. Yummy Dogs is a good place to stop by for a quick snack; the only problem is when they try to convince us that deep-fried patties and high-calorie sauces are actually good for us. Then again, they don't call it comfort eating for nothing.
