Purab Kohli has recently designed a clothing line for Bombay Shirt Company
VJ turned actor Purab Kohli, who was last seen in Girish Malik’s 2013 film Jal, has recently tried his hand in designing. He has collaborated with Bombay Shirt Company for their new men’s capsule collection created especially keeping in mind the Mumbai summers. Simple yet quirky, it includes slim-fit shirts in a mix of solids, checks, and prints.

Q. What made you take up this project?
A. I like to tailor make my clothes and even when I work with a designer I always contribute my two bits. So, when the Bombay Shirt Company came up with the offer I grabbed it.

Q. Have you picked a few tips of the trade from the designers while walking the ramp and working in movies?
A. Yes, all the time. If I've like something a designer has made for me it gets stuck in my head and I tend to look for similar detailing while buying clothes of even get similar ones made. In the collection there’s a light pink shirt with a white collar. It’s a detail Mehma Tibb used in a shirt she designed for me. Similarly, the flaps in the brown print shirt are inspired from a shirt Gary Wallang designed for me a few years back.
Q. Tell us about the collection and the inspiration behind it. Any favourites?
A. Well, these are easy shirts to fill your wardrobe — they range from causal to some formal wear, some office wear and
party wear. My favourite is the blue print.
Q. How was the creative process? How did you go about with it?
A. We worked with their latest materials and put together the designs in five hours. BSC makes the process real easy.
All you have to do is pick the fabric, then choose the pattern of the shirt and the sleeves, and incorporate the collars and
cuffs to create your own customised design.
Q. What is your personal style sutra?
A. Simple, relaxed and easy. Comfort is priority. Throw in some fine tailor-made stuff and I am content.
Q. Your favorite item of clothing?
A. A fresh nicely-stitched shirt.
Q. Summer essentials in your wardrobe?
A. Shorts, cotton tees and linen shirts.
