The Kurla GRP has arrested a 40 year-old man who allegedly robbed gold chains and money from railway commuters. The accused was nabbed by the commuters on Bhandup railway station after he snatched a chain from a college student. On Wednesday, Pooja Gadkar was standing on platform number one when the accused Rajesh Sawant snatched her chain. Gadkar tried to catch Sawant, but he pushed her away and jumped on the tracks, climbed onto platform number two.
Gadkar then shouted and alerted nearby commuters, who managed to nab the accused and handed him over to the Bhandup police. Sawant was then handed to the Kurla GRP. Shivaji Dhumal, senior PI of Kurla GRP, said the accused has other cases registered against him. The police also recovered 10 gram of gold from the accused.
Sawant was produced in court and has been remanded to police custody.
