Con artist steals gold chain worth Rs 70,000

An unidentified person, who posed as a customer, made away with a gold chain worth Rs 70,000 from a jewellery shop located on Sinhgad Road on Wednesday afternoon.

u00a0“On Wednesday at 1.45 pm a person, who seemed to be in his 20s, entered the shop and expressed his willingness to buy gold ornaments,” shop owner Babulal Parmar said. “As soon as I realised that he has made away with the gold chain, I left the counter and ran after him. He, however, managed to escape.”

Failing to nab the conman, Parmar lodged a complaint at the Dattawadi police station. API P N Waghchaure of Dattawadi police station said they recovered the CCTV footage from the shop and using it they were trying to ascertain the culprit’s identity. “A case has been lodged against the suspect under Section 420 of the IPC,” Waghchaure said.
