While the Congress is pinning its hopes on its party president Sonia Gandhi, the BJP is banking on Narendra Modi's recent rally to do the job for them.
Congress candidate Suresh Kalmadi who is seeking reelection on the development plank feels that Sonia, who will be addressing election rally in Pune soon, will make a tremendous impact on the voters.

The BJP can get the crowds, but the Congress will get the votes," said Kalmadi, who said that he knew exactly how to get funds from the center for Pune's development.u00a0u00a0
Listing the number of projects, funded through his intervention with the Central Government, Kalmadi specified riverside development (Rs 2,500 croreu00a0 from Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Development Scheme), sewerage (Rs 86 Crore), Balewadi Sports Complex (Rs 500 crore), and slum development (Rs 395 crore).
Kalmadi considers the BJP candidate as the only competition, and feels that the BSP candidate D S Kulkarni will forfeit his deposit.
Kulkarni, on the other hand, claims that only the BSP can help develop the city. "People need change. They are fed up with seeing the same face. BSP will make a very powerful impact through the elections," Kulkarni said.
