Odisha: In a bizarre incident, a Muslim man in rural Assam reportedly divorced his wife for defying the diktat issued by village elders to vote for Congress during the state Assembly elections. Apparently, the woman voted for BJP.
The said incident, reported in regional newspapers, occurred at Donam Addahati village in Sonitpur district, where the village heads are sympathetic towards the grand old party.
The village elders are said to have issued a diktat, making it mandatory for all the villagers to vote for Congress. However, Dilwara Begum, decided to defy the order and voted for BJP’s Pramod Borathakur.
Outraged by her defiance, Dilwara’s husband Ainuddin divorced her after she informed him about her decision. The couple had been married for the past 10 years.
