The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) aims to go hi-tech and eco-friendly soon, with computerised offices that are free of paper.

Rahul Gandhi urged all party cadres to equip themselves with technical know-how

If everything goes according to plan, all district offices will soon be connected to each other with the help of computers, and all correspondences between them will be undertaken through emails, and not letters or faxes.

Initially, the party unit in the state intends to focus on implementing the IT systems in six to eight districts, after which the system will be extended to all units across the state.

Finally, all the district units will be linked to the state party headquarters in Mumbai.

Manikrao Thakre, the MPCC president, said, "We are working on a plan to introduce IT systems in all district headquarters, in order to facilitate communication. The systems will be eventually installed at the block offices as well.

Recently, Rahul Gandhi urged all the party cadres to equip themselves with technological know-how, and we are taking his advice seriously."

The party also plans to recruit IT-savvy personnel at the district offices to implement the new systems and ensure that they function smoothly.

Lagging behind
The party has a lesson or two to learn from the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has a dedicated IT cell and IT unit. These become specially active during election campaigns. Several BJP leaders have their own websites as well.
