Hint

Hint has an interesting array of cocktails and mocktails. Apart from the gorgeous view that the open-air section of the lounge bar and restaurant offers, regulars love the Chinese and Thai starters. Their promotional events like Ladies' Night and Bollywood Night are invariably packed to capacity.

At:
47/48, Bangalore Central 5th Floor, Residency Road (Opp Mayo Hall). Ph: 4112 3557, 4112 3558. Meal for two: Rs 1500 (with drinks).

"The restaurant offers an amazing view of the city. I don't drink alcohol, so I try the mocktails. Parking is no problem here. The location is ideal if you are hosting a party as it's in the heart of town"
Anjaan, Radio One's senior programming manager and RJ

The Only Place

The decor is minimalistic, with plain wooden benches and cane chairs, but the food is superlative. The menu is not exhaustive but each dish is a work of art. The portions are generous, making it a value-for-money restaurant. The London fish n chips ranks as the hot favourite.

Though continental food is what The Only Place is famous for, they also serve a modest variety of Indian fare. While meat-eaters have reason to rejoice, vegetarians have to be content with salads, quiche and pasta. For those who didn't know this already, they make the best apple pie in town.

The Only Place is the winner in the International/ Specialty category of the contest.

At: Only Place, behind Museum Road post office, next to Raheja Chambers, Shanthala Nagar, Museum Road. Ph: 3271 8989. Meal for two: Rs 900 (approx).

"The Only Place is my favourite restaurant because their steaks are incredible"

South Indies

South Indies, the south Indian vegetarian restaurant in Indiranagar, offers traditional and tasty food from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. They also have an elegant lounge called Upsouth. The du00c3u00a9cor of the restaurant is contemporary and the food is vegetarianu00e2u0080u00a6 tadka maar ke! Take for instance, the podi tossed idlis, where cocktail idlis are smothered in desi ghee and spicy chutney powder. The mokka junna miriyalu or batter-fried baby corn garnished with black pepper and the karuvepilai poondu kozhumbhu, a garlic-curry leaf gravy, are other revelations, and so is the elaneer payasam.

South Indies is the winner in the Other South Indian category of the contest.

Master chef Venkatesh Bhat says, "I'm more than thrilled that connoisseurs of good food have given us a high rating. We are just a year-and-a-half old and it's great to know that our hard work has been rewarded."
