Officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) yesterday morning arrested Assistant Sub Inspector Sampat Malusare of the Market Yard police station for accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from Motiram Gawade (32) for sparing him in an accidentcase.
ACB officials laid a trap and arrested Malusare red-handed while taking money near the police station. Officials said Gawade, the complainant, owns a transport business. u00a0On July 17, 2011, one of the trucks owned by Gawade met with an accident in Bibwewadi and soon after the incident its driver fled the spot.u00a0
Harassment
The accident case was registered at Market Yard police station and Malusare was appointed as the investigating officer. “Malusare started pestering Gawade to produce the truck driver in the police station. He also threatened him that a case would be registered against him if he failed to do so. Malusare demanded Rs 25,000 from Gawade to get keep him away from the case,” ACB PI Rajendra Galande said.

Gawade approached the ACB office and lodged a complaint against Malusare. “We told him to start negotiating with Malusare. As per our instructions, the deal was struck for Rs 15,00, and Malusare asked him to come with the money near the police station on Tuesday morning,” Galande said yesterday.u00a0
