Patil was found patrolling on a Honda Stunner with the number plate MH43-AA-369. The number is actually registered in the name of a retired BEST employee from Airoli for his Honda Shine bike. Inquiries have revealed that Patil was given the two-wheeler by history-sheeter Yakub Shaikh from Nagpada.u00a0

No poster boy: MiD DAY had reported yesterday how API Umesh Patil raided a printer’s shop to seize a bunch of posters highlighting his deed and demanding an inquiry against him; he also detained the man who had ordered the postersu00a0

As per police records Yakub had been arrested in two cases of extortion in 1996 and 1997 and a case breach of peace in 2012. Following MiD DAY’s report, Patnaik initiated an inquiry into the matter and ordered deputy commissioner of police Keshav Jadhav to investigate and submit a report.

Jadhav had filed a detailed report based on MiD DAY’s article and tabled it before the police commissioner, seeking action against the errant cop.
Vinayak Sawade, senior police inspector of Nagpada police station, confirmed the reports but refused to divulge further information.u00a0
