A verbal altercation between a BJP worker and a police official at a police station, after which one of them slapped the other, has led to the cop being moved to the control room. BJP workers allege it was the cop who slapped the worker, while a police source says it was the other way round. Following the incident in the wee hours of Thursday, BJP MP Kirit Somaiya visited Parksite police station yesterday.

The incident followed the complaint of a 15-year-old girl who was allegedly approached on the road by another BJP worker, Sunil Yadav (21), who also held her hand. After the girl's father complained to Yadav's father about the incident, Yadav and his friends allegedly thrashed him (the girl's father). He later complained to the Parksite police station. Yadav was arrested in half an hour and charged under Sections 363 (kidnapping), 354A (physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). Around 12 am on Thursday another BJP worker, Dilip Matkar arrived and allegedly asked the investigating officer to not file a case. He also took Yadav aside to speak to him. The officer told him not to do so, and Matkar allegedly slapped him.

According to a police officer, “BJP worker Dilip Matkar came to the police station at midnight and asked the investigating officer, Vikas Raut, not to file the case. He also took Yadav aside to talk to him but when Raut told him that he could not talk to Yadav as he is in police custody, Matkar slapped him. Till 5 am, BJP workers protested demanding action against Raut.”

DCP Vinay Rathod said, “There is an allegation that an officer of Parksite police station misbehaved with a BJP worker from Parksite. An inquiry has been initiated.”

Asked if the investigating officer was transferred, DCP Rathod said, “Not transferred. He has been temporarily attached to the control room till the completion of inquiry.”

Somaiya meets police
Following the issue, yesterday, BJP MP Kirit Somaiya went to the Parksite police station. He told mid-day later, “Matkar may be at the police station for any reason, but he was slapped by the investigating officer. After we got to know this at our office, a few workers went there to look into the matter. That's when the investigating officer apologised and said whatever happened was wrong, and that he had lost his temper and asked us to close the issue. When I went to the police station yesterday at 12:30 pm, the acting senior police inspector told me that it was their officer who had done something wrong, and he also apologised for the same.”

Somaiya added, “If Matkar had done something wrong there, the officer had liberty to prosecute him, but if the officer was wrong then strong action should be taken.” He claimed he had received complaints about the policeman earlier.

Minor's story
The 15-year-old said, “On Wednesday morning, when I was going home from school, Sunil Yadav stopped me in the middle of the road and held my hand. He tried to give me his number and told me to call him. I informed my father about the incident. My father then spoke to Yadav's father about the incident.”

She added, “The next day, Yadav, along with 3-4 friends, came to our place and assaulted my father. At about 9 pm we filed an FIR against Yadav.”

Her father did not comment on the incident between the BJP worker and the policeman. He only said, “After we registered the FIR on Thursday night, I asked my daughter and wife to go home. At midnight, BJP worker Dilip Matkar came and was talking to Police Sub Inspector Vikas Raut regarding our case. After sometime, I was asked to go inside the police station and Matkar was still talking to Raut. Matkar did not approach me.”
