Four constables attached to Additional CP Quaiser Khalid's office were arrested for robbing and beating beauticians, customers; one accused threatened the beat marshal arresting him
Additional Police Commissioner Quaiser Khalid’s men havebeen robbing citizens in the senior cop’s east region jurisdiction.u00a0Two of his constables were arrested from a beauty parlour in Mulund for mauling and robbing the beauticians. Two more were arrested after the beauticians saw them working at Khalid’s office where, ironically, the parlour staff had been called to give statements in the first case.u00a0

On Thursday, the Mulund police arrested constables Hanumanta Kawale (37), Shekhar Shinde (30), Madhukar Khillare (40) and Dashrath Jankar (32), attached to Khalid’s office. u00a0The case has been handed over to the Crime Branch for further investigations, said a senior officer. Kawale and Khillare are drivers while Shinde and Jankar are wireless operators in Khalid’s office.
According to the FIR (copy with MiD DAY), Kawale and Shinde entered Rudrakshini Beauty Parlour and Spa located at LBS Marg in Mulund (West), on Thursday. u00a0At the time, the salon’s owner Radhika Salian, beautician Lata Dubey, and several other staff members were present. Kawale and Shinde allegedly thrashed Lata Dubey, and stole Rs 10,000 from her and another beautician’s purse.

In the meantime, the salon’s owner Salian called up beat chowkie officer Bunty Bhosale. Bhosale arrived at the spot and caught one constable red-handed. Fearing arrest, another constable locked himself inside the parlour. Soon, a mob gathered and kicked in the door, forcing the constable to come out. According to an eyewitness, the accused constables threatened Bhosale, saying that they were Khalid’s men. “Main phone karta hoon, Khalidsaheb abhi yahan aa jayenge,” a constable said to the beat marshal.
While interrogations were on, Khalid ordered the Mulund police to present all the parties involved in the incident at his office in Chembur. When the police team followed Khalid’s order and took the spa staff and the accused constables to his office, a beautician identified Khillare and Jankar at the office. They had robbed her and her customers earlier, she claimed.
“Khillare and Jankar had robbed Rs 6,000 from a customer Raju, Rs 2,500 from my purse and Rs 1,500 from Lata’s purse on December 22,” said the beautician on condition of anonymity.
Late at night, the police arrested the four constables under Sections 392 (robbery), 394 (voluntarily causing hurt while committing robbery) and 34 (acts done by several persons with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
“Two constables were arrested on the spot. After roles of the other two constables were established, they were arrested as well. A departmental enquiry has been initiated and the matter has been handed over to the Crime Branch,” said Sadanand Date, joint commissioner of police (law and order).u00a0
