Cops arrest two chain snatchers

Sandeep Jadhav (35), a resident of Rupeenagar, lodged an FIR at the Nigdi police station against Ganesh Gaikwad. Jadhav caught Gaikwad, a resident of Ahmednagar, while snatching his gold chain worth Rs 60,000. The incident occurred at Tilak Chowk, on the Pune-Mumbai Highway, on Friday around 6.30pm. According to Jadhav, he had gone to the Pavle Bridge for darshan of the Sant Tukaram’s palkhi when Gaikwad allegedly tried to snatch his chain. API M R Khokle of Nigdi police station is investigating the case.

A similar incident was reported from Dighi Magazine Chowk on Alandi-Pune Road on Friday morning while Sant Dnyaneshwar’s palkhi was in procession. Sakharam Bhagaji Karvande (30), a mediaperson from Mumbai, was targeted by a chain snatcher while directing his OB van driver towards Bhosari. The crook fled the spot after snatching Karvande’s gold chain worth R70,000. PSI Dilip Chandan is investigating the case.

Molester booked
Khadki police arrested Santosh Laxman Shirsath (30), from Navi Sangvi, on charges of molesting women during the palkhi processions. Shirsath also assaulted a policeman on duty, who tried to stop him at Bopodi at around 2.30 pm on Saturday, after receiving complaints. Shirsath has been charged under sections 352 (assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code.
