Close on the heels of the rescue of a four-year-old girl, who was abducted from CST, taken to Haridwar and forced to beg, officials of DN Nagar police station busted a gang operating with a similar modus operandi and arrested three persons involved in several pick-pocketing, bag- snatching and house-breaking cases yesterday.

The case came to light after the police arrested a 16-year-old boy on Saturday and based on the information provided by the minor, laid a trap and nabbed three gang members, namely Ramzan alias Rambo Rahim Sheikh (18), Salman alias Ismail Qureshi (18) and Tanveer alias Bibda Ayub Khan (21).

According to a police source, the gang comprises mostly minors, who they believe may have been kidnapped and forced into leading a life of crime. The gang mainly operated during the monsoon and a police team is currently tracking the other members of the group. The 16-year-old had spilled the beans during questioning and was later sent to the remand home.

The source said that another 14-year-old boy was detained, but the cops released him and set up a team to track his movements and arrest other members of the gang.

Assistant Police Inspector Manish Avle of the DN Nagar police station said that the three accused were arrested yesterday morning and will be produced in the Andheri court today.

Modus operandi
The gang targets victims in crowded areas, bus stands and railway stations during heavy showers. They stand at waterlogged points on the roads and snatch valuables from auto rickshaw passengers and escape before the surprised victims can react.

A police officer added that these offenders are known for substance abuse and are usually high when they commit these crimes.u00a0
