When a patrolling police team from Mundhwa police station questioned three persons standing suspiciously on an over bridge near Ghorpadi railway station, they were least prepared for what happened next.

The trio showered the police personnel with blows, abandoned two motorcycles and jumped off the over bridge. While chasing the three men, two police personnel, including Sub-Inspector Rahul Kolambikar, were injured when one of the suspects attacked them with an iron rod.

Reinforcements were called in and managed to nab one of the suspects. According to the police, the suspect identified as Sidheshwar Chavan (20), a resident of Hadapsar, is wanted in connection with several vehicle theft cases, house breaking, robbery and dacoity registered against him in various police stations. The two bikes they left behind were also stolen. Constable Rameshwar Lokre and Kolambikar were later admitted to the nearby hospital.

“Constables Lokre, P S Ugale and I were patrolling the Ghorpadi area in the wee hours of Thursday. When our vehicle reached the over bridge of Ghorpadi railway station, we spotted three people with two bikes standing in a suspicious manner,” said Kolambikar.

“We immediately contacted other beat marshals, informing them which direction the fleeing men were going.” He said when they questioned the men, they manhandled them, left their bikes and jumped off the bridge. Chavan also hurt his leg while jumping off the bridge and he has been admitted to the Sassoon Hospital. u00a0
