20,000 cops to keep vigil on New Year's Eve

As Mumbaikars prepare to ring in the New Year today, police officials and hoteliers will be on their toes ensuring that no untoward incident occurs.

The authorities will be deploying around 17,000 policemen for New Year’s Eve and another 3,000 traffic police personnel.u00a0


The troops will specially concentrate on safety of women at spots such as Juhu Beach, Gateway of India, Dadar and Marine Drive, said an official. “Our aim is the safety of women at these spots as people might come inebriated to these areas,” added the official.


Traffic cops will be concentrating on drink driving cases. “Leaves and weekly offs of all personnel have been cancelled. So is hiring of private bungalows at beachs,” the official further said.


Even hoteliers have agreed to increase security at their establishments following the recent gang rape in New Delhi.u00a0
