Robbery angle rejected as cops find nothing missing from flat where two women were killed in Bhayander; son of one victim questioned as he returned later than usual from college on day of crime

Cops look for love angle in double murder

A day after the murder of a middle-aged woman and her female friend in Bhayandar, the police yesterday ruled out the robbery angle and said they were instead investigating whether a love affair had anything to do with the crime.

Murder mystery: Flora Rodricks and her friend Shilpa Gandhi were found murdered in the former’s Bhayandar flat on Monday

The police said they were also questioning the son of Flora Rodricks (45), whose body was found in her flat on Bhadrakali Road in Bhayandar (West) along with the body of Shilpa Gandhi (32) late in the evening on Monday. The police said they wanted to know why Rodricks’ son Naizer (21) came home late on Monday when he usually returned from college much earlier.

The police said robbery had been ruled out as the motive since the jewellery worn by the two women was found intact and there was nothing
missing from the flat in Hemakunj Building.

Naizer, who the police said studied in a college in Vasai, had discovered the murders after he returned home around 8.30 pm on Monday. On ringing the doorbell and getting no answer, Naizer had unsuccessfully tried to call his mother on the phone. After failing to force the door of the flat open, he had finally approached a stall owner opposite his building to get a duplicate key that used to be kept there.

A police official said Rodricks and Gandhi were found lying in a pool of blood when the door was opened. Naizer had then contacted the police, after which the bodies were sent for post-mortem.

The police said though the motive behind the crime was still not clear, they were investigating the love affair angle and had called in many people for questioning.

Gandhi used to reside a few buildings away from Rodricks’ residence.

The two became good friends after meeting each other three years ago and used to regularly hang out together.

The police said the two also used to visit the gym together. According to the police, there was a possibility that someone who liked them was pursuing the women and that this had led to the murders.

“The investigation is on and things will fall in place as it progresses,” Dy SP (Thane rural) Prashant Deshpande said.u00a0
