Cops rewarded for giving chain snatchers the chase

After valiantly attempting to nab two fleeing chain snatchers at Bandra on Thursday, two constables have been rewarded, one of whom was severely injured in the chase. The miscreants, however, managed to escape.
Constables Anil Tadvi and Subhash Bhonsle, attached to Khar police station, were patrolling the Khar-Danda area at 3 pm, when they spotted a suspicious looking duo speeding on a motorbike. After chasing them for several kilometres, the constables lost their trail, and decided to wait outside the National College.

Ten minutes later, Tadvi and Bhonsle saw the same duo approaching, and tried to stop the bike. The bikers knocked off Bhonsle, who, in a desperate attempt to intercept them, grabbed one of their legs. In the process, however, he accidentally inserted his hand inside the motorbike's wheel chain, sustaining grievous injuries.

"Upon inquiry, the biker was identified as Raju, a man with a criminal record," said a police officer, adding, "We have launched a manhunt to nab both men."

Tadvi and Bhonsle have each been rewarded Rs 5,000 in appreciation of their bravery," said DCP Pratap Dighavkar.

"The constable is out of danger and will be discharged soon," said a doctor at Lilavati hospital.
