mid-day’s story on June 5 (Residents of Virar society poured acid on dog to kill it: Animal lover) stated how the killings have been troubling the Mandavkar family who are animal lovers and the building’s residents. While the family alleges that other members of the society are behind this, members claim it’s the work of outsiders.

Investigating officer and Assistant Sub Inspector of Virar Police Station, VJ Sangle, said, “We have taken a non-cognisable (NC) complaint from the Mandavkar family. We have also summoned the society members to the police station and asked them to ensure that no other dogs are harmed,” he said.

“We will also conduct surprise visits to the society. If anyone is found assaulting an animal, we will take strict action,” added Sangle.
