The police arrested Bharati Nagar corporator Shakeel Ahmed and three of his associates for attempting to kill a bar owner, who refused to serve them liquor after the permissible deadline on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred when the corporator and his associates, Salman and two others went to Lias Bar and Restaurant on Church Street at around 11.30 pm and demanded to be served liquor.
Won't break the law
Bar-owner Nayeem refused stating that the police would pull him up for violating rules, which enraged Shakeel and his associates who then started assaulting Nayeem while hurling abuses.
"They abused me at the top of their voices and Shakeel was enraged and he kicked me repeatedly and kept encouraging his associates to kill me," Nayeem said in his complaint to the police.
In the melee, one of Shakeel's associates whipped out a knife and attacked Nayeem, but the victim deflected the weapon aimed for his chest and instead was severely injured on the right arm. Following the knife attack, Nayeem raised an alarm, following which Shakeel and the rest fled the spot.
Curious onlookers, who gathered to witness the attack, rushed him to Mallya hospital where he was operated upon and is said to be out of danger.u00a0u00a0The doctors at the hospital informed the jurisdictional Cubbon Park police, who rushed to the spot and recorded the victim's complaint.
Shakeel and his associates were picked up a few hours after the attack and the cops have filed an attempt to murder case against them.
