Couple commits suicide in Mumbai due to financial crisis

A Borivli couple in their late 50's committed suicide on late Thursday evening. They are suspected to take this extreme step due to financial crisis even though the reason behind suicide is not clear

A Borivli couple in their late 50's committed suicide on late Thursday evening. They are suspected to take this extreme step due to financial crisis even though the reason behind suicide is not clear.

Ashok Shah, 58 and wife Ela, 54 committed suicide by hanging at their Borivli West residence. The couple were residents of Saidham building, Sodawala lane in Borivli west.


Borivli police is currently investigating the case.

The police officials said that a four page suicide note was left behind by the couple claiming that no one was responsible for their suicide. The bodies of the couple was found by their son who called the police. They deceased are survived by son and daughter.

A police officer said that the husband was a businessman and due to financial problems, he might have committed suicide.

Another police officer said, "The husband had taken loans which he could not return, which may be the reason for suicide. Further investigations are on. Statements of family members and thorough study of suicide note may tell us the exact reason for suicide."
