Mumbai: The sessions court here today quashed the proceedings against Gayatri Javeri in connection with a cruelty case filed by her sister-in-law and socialite Sheetal Mafatlal.

The sessions judge R N Joshi allowed the revision application filed by Javeri.

The judge observed that Sheetal had made allegations against her husband Atulya, brother-in law Ajay, mother-in-law Madhuri, but there was no specific allegation against Javeri; the allegations against her were vague.

Sheetal had filed a case against her in-laws under section 498A (cruelty by husband or his family) of IPC in August 2011.

She alleged in the complaint, among other things, that Javeri instigated her in-laws. Sheetal also alleged that Ajay and Madhuri sold her valuable paintings and two Chinese pots to a scrap dealer. The articles were later recovered from him. She alleged that Atulya had sold her jewelry to his former wife.

The police filed a closure report in August last year at Girgaon court indicating that no offence was made out. Objecting to the police report, Sheetal filed a protest petition, which was allowed, and the magistrate's court issued process against Gayatri and Ajay.

Sessions court today quashed order of magistrate in Gayatri Javeri's case.
