In March this year, some 12 filmmakers from both sides of the border had joined hands under a peace initiative of Zee — Zeal for Unity. Six directors from India — Nikhil Advani, Tanuja Chandra, Bejoy Nambiar, Ketan Mehta and Aparna Sen — and their Pakistani peers, like Mehreen Jabbar, Sabiha Sumar and Meenu Farjad, came together for an apolitical exchange to mark the 70th year of Partition.

Each of them was to make a film. The plan was to release the films sometime around Independence Day, or premiere them on television, but that has not happened yet.

Chandra is ready with her film, Silvat, starring Kartik Aryan. But she said she knows "little about the release plans of the film" and that it 'would be decided by the producers'. Nambiar’s film — Dobara — too is ready for release.

Advani said he was 'happy' to have got a chance to make a film under the Zeal for Unity initiative. “I was allowed to say what I felt through my film. Besides, the theatrical rights are with us. So, we will figure out a way to screen the film.”

Some of the films were screened at a few centres of the 7th edition of Jagran Film Festival, which started in New Delhi on July 1 and will open in Mumbai on Monday.

Sunil Buch, business head of Zee, who also takes care of Zindagi, did not reply to mid-day’s text message.
