Lakhs of commuters on their way to work Monday were inconvenienced when Western Railway services on the suburban section were delayed after a crow hit a high-tension overhead wire, snapping it, an official said.

The charred remains of the crow were found near the wire hanging from the pole on the fast track, near Marine Lines station in south Mumbai this morning around 7.30 a.m., said the official.

"It must have hit the wire at a speed resulting in a short-circuit and a portion of the wire snapping," the official told IANS.

Though there were no cancellations, services were delayed by up to 30 minutes as the fast trains were diverted to the slow tracks. The repair work was taken up immediately and the line restored within two hours, he said.
