Here is your chance to become a storyteller. Kommune, the collective of artistes, performers and creators, is organising their first Story Slam - a storytelling open mic.

The best part: there is no curation. "You just have to walk into the space and put your name and story into a jar. Ten stories will be picked at random and their creations will get a chance to impress a panel of six judges," says poet Shamir Reuben, head of content and social media, Kommunizma.

The judges will include three members from the audience and three from Kommune. The final score from them will decide the winner, who takes home a cash prize. If the storyteller is exceptional, s/he will get to work with Kommune on upcoming projects.

The collective began in January 2015 as a venture by Roshan Abbas, Gavra Kaput and Ankur Tiwari. It was created as a space for the creative community to convene and collaborate. They are known for their web series, The Storytellers in The Living Room that started early this year. "We will be turning the whole event into a 30-minute episode that will air on our online channel. It will be a live game-show kind of episode," adds Reuben.

There is no restriction on age, and the stories can be in English or Hindi. The only restriction is that the duration of the story has to be under five minutes, and it should've occurred to the person narrating it. Fiction isn't allowed.

Reuben's advice to performers is to have fun. "There are so many performance ideas to be explored. Try out some of them. For instance: weave a stand-up set into the story. The aim should be to blow people's minds with your story."

And if you don't want to participate, you can always head there for a night of compelling stories and good beer.
