D-gang duped!

Two men run away with Rs 25 lakh the Dawood gang gave them to arrange meeting with Naxals in Dubai; get unlucky when city cops arrest them on suspicion of plotting terror attacks

Vinay Kumar (30), of Ramanathapura in Hassan district, a professional bouncer, and Devaiah (33), of Nallur in Kodagu district, detective with a city-based agency, were nabbed by the Central Crime Branch investigators on charges of plotting terror acts in the country at the behest of Pakistan's ISI and Naxal leaders.

Devaiahu00a0and Vinay Kumar had bought a car with the loot, but were nabbed before they could spend the rest of it

Acting on a tip-off, the investigators nabbed Kumar in Cottonpet, and later recovered cash, which was later found to be sent to him through hawala.

Because of his profession, Kumar had come in contact with Altaf alias Rakesh, a Chhota Shakeel aide, who used to run a live band (dance bar) on Residency Road.

Altaf had fled to Dubai after getting into many criminal cases (cheating and assault), but Kumar kept in touch with him, and arranged bar girls and sent them to Dubai on a commission basis.

Altaf suggested a business proposition to Kumar Kumar was to get contacts of Naxal leaders, because the D-Company was interested in helping them logistically.

Using the opportunity, Kumar claimed that he knew many Naxal leaders since he was from an affected region and demanded one crore rupees to get the contacts.

Kumar promised Altaf that he would take a few Maoists from the state to Dubai while Devaiah claimed to have established contacts with Maoists in the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

Altaf asked him to get the leaders to Dubai for a detailed meeting with Shakeel.

"As per the deal, Kumar and Devaiah received Rs 25 lakh as advance money from Altaf through hawala, to arrange for tickets and travel documents for the naxal leaders.

Kumar and Devaiah who don't have any Naxal connections, decided to make good with the money in hand," an investigating officer said.

After getting the money, Kumar and Devaiah wanted to have a lavish life and they even purchased an expensive car.

The plot was busted with the arrest of the duo and the police have recovered a pistol without a licence, seven bullets, visa and passport documents and Rs 10 lakh cash were seized from Devaiah's house in Rabindranath Tagore Nagar. The police recovered another Rs 10 lakh after the interrogation, sources added.

Altaf has been residing in Dubai and was trying to establish contacts with Maoists in the state to help them carry out terror acts on the behest of Chhota Shakeel.

City police commissioner Shankar Bidri said, "We have approached the Interpol to secure the custody of Altaf alias Rakesh who has hiding in Dubai."
