In a new twist in builder Sunil Loharia’s murder case, one of the prime accused Suresh Bijlani on Friday afternoon claimed that Loharia’s son tried to kill him by opening fire at him. Bijlani has registered an FIR against Loharia’s son Sunny at Kharghar police station. But that is just half the story. Incidentally, 12 hours prior to the alleged incident, Sunny had messaged Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner AK Sharma, stating that Bijlani was going to orchestrate such a shootout as part of his ploy to implicate him.

The police chief had acknowledged the cautionary message. Bijlani, in his FIR, told the police that while he was travelling by his car on Friday afternoon, some unidentified bike-borne accused opened fire at him. In return, Bijlani fired back with his licensed revolver, he said. After the incident, he called the police control room. When cops reached the spot, they found bullet holes on his car. No one was injured.

Bijlani alleged that it was Sunny who tried to kill him. An FIR was registered against Sunny and a few others, on the charge of attempt to murder. Vinod Asrani alias Chembur, who is an accused in the J Dey murder case, has also been named.

Police Commissioner Sharma told MiD DAY, “We have registered a case against Sunny. But we will not arrest him as our investigation into the matter is on.” Confirming the fact of Sunny’s forewarning, Sharma said, “Yes, late on Thursday night, I received a message from Sunny that Bijlani was going to stage an attack on himself and will name him as an accused. The message is in favour of Sunny so we are investigating the matter and not arresting him. We will also investigate how Sunny came to know of the impending incident.”

Sunny said, “From my network I came to know of Bijlani’s ploy late Thursday evening. I discussed the matter with my family and we decided to inform the police. As it was too late, I messaged the commissioner and he acknowledged it. However, I still fear that some day they will kill me or put my family members’ life in danger. I don’t have any faith in the police as anything can happen to me anytime. I have to build my network to protect myself?”

Sunil Kumar Loharia, a Vashi-based builder, was shot dead outside his office in Navi Mumbai in February. He had named his killers before he died. Later, when prime accused Bijlani’s bail plea was rejected by the Supreme Court, he got the same from a court in Indore. Sunny said, “I will move the Supreme Court on Monday as it is not legally right that he should get bail from another court.”
