A slice of the city that misses the eye
This tree temple, dedicated to the Monkey God Hanuman, is believed to ward off evil and obstacles. It is one of many tree temples that are found across the city.
Tree worship, which is mentioned in ancient scriptures like the Puranas, equated trees with Gods.

The temple houses an auspicious Peepul tree in whose grove (painted in orange) is the self-manifested (or swayambhu) form of Hanuman. Tuesdays and Saturdays are when a steady stream of devotees drop by.
The Maruti temple was set up in 1960 and soon after, the form of Maruti appeared in the trunk of the tree which was located close by.
The temple is visited by devotees of Hanuman and Shani who drop by to pray for removal of obstacles from their path. Since the deity faces the south, he is referred to as Dakshinmurthy. u00a0
