A dance teacher in her late twenties was allegedly raped near her Powai residence yesterday. Cops alleged that the incident took place in the wee hours.
An arrest is likely to be made in the case today. The Powai police officials have detained a suspect. Since the incident, the survivor has been in a stable condition, but is in a state of shock. She has been admitted to a private hospital in the area.
Speaking to MiD DAY, Senior Police Inspector Y L Jadhav of Powai police station said, “The woman had gone out for a party on Thursday night, where she got late. Her friend droppedher near her residence, as she was under the influence of alcohol.
The incident took place after this.” He added, “The next morning around 5 am, she was found unconscious near her building’s lift. Her brother was informed, who then took her to the hospital. Her medical reports revealed that she had been raped. The girl is alright now, and we have registered the offence.”
The accused has been booked under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code. The survivor teaches dance at two places in the suburbs.
