Oscar-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis, who announced his retirement from films last week, has reportedly made plans to go out with a bang by playing a dressmaker in his last film.

Day-Lewis' last film will be directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and is slated for a release in 2018.

"He's so method, it takes him three years to prepare for a role. He was telling friends he really wanted to go out with a bang," a source told pagesix.com.

The source added that Day-Lewis did such intense research and learned so much about couture fashion for his final film playing "an uncompromising dressmaker commissioned by royalty and high society" that he will stick with the profession off screen and become a dressmaker.

He has bagged the Best Actor honour at the Oscars three times for his roles in films like 'My Left Foot' (1989), 'There Will Be Blood' (2007) and 'Lincoln' (2013).

The untitled movie that's set to close his acting career, tells the story of a dressmaker, who is commissioned to design for members of high society and royalty, set on the height of the 1950s London fashion scene.

Day-Lewis will be joined by Lesley Manville and Camilla Rutherford in the film.
