For the past few weeks, actors Paritosh Painter and Jayesh Thakkar have been learning magic tricks from consultant Mangesh Desai, who performs in the United States. For their characters as amateur magicians in It's A Kind Of Magic, the two need to learn basic tricks of the trade. So, have they mastered the art of illusion?

"Last week, at a party I tried showing off some of the magic tricks I had learnt from Mangesh -- one worked and the other didn't," admits Painter sheepishly. Well, at least the portrayal of the bumbling magicians will be true to life in this performance.

It's A Kind Of Magic is a stand-up-comedy-meets-theatre production that has been created especially for the newest performance space in the city.u00a0 The performance is a continuation of Painter's See no Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil series of comedy plays that focussed on characters who were differently-abled. "With Get Rid Of My Wife, we had exhausted almost all our material to create jokes. So our biggest challenge was to create new jokes that don't seem repetitive," says Painter.
In It's A Kind Of Magic, Hardik Singh, the fictional manager of The Comedy Store invites a well-known magician to perform at the venue. But due to certain unforeseen circumstances, the magician has to back out.
Eventually the talent co-ordinator arranges for a performance by David Copperfield, which gets Singh really excited. Except, the David Copperfield in question are David Gonsalves and Anthony Copperfield, two amateur magicians who happen to be deaf and mute.
With enough possibility for situational comedy (intentional or otherwise), expect this one to be a
fun ride.
