3 dead, 31 injured in an accident on Mum-Goa Highway

In a freak accident, three people lost their lives while 31 others sustained injuries after a tourist bus went off the road on the Mumbai- Goa highway yesterday morning.


According to Wadkhal police, at around 2.15 am, the steering of the bus (MH-04 G 9988), which belonged to Padmavati Travels, got locked due to which the driver lost control of the vehicle.


The bus then when off the road and bumped into rocks lying by the side of the road, which led to the death of three people. Inspector Pradeep Tidar of Wadkhal police, said, “The bus was carrying 49 passengers from Borivli To Guhagar. According to preliminary investigations, the driver was driving the vehicle at a high speed, when its steering got locked near Nigada bridge.”


According to police, 26 passengers were rushed to hospitals in Pen, while six people with serious injuries were brought to Sion hospital. Those with minor injures were discharged after treatment. However one of the passengers succumbed to injuries at Sion hospital.

Those who died have been identified as Suvarna Ghadashi (50), and Ramchandra Khapre (65), while the identity of the person who died at Sion hospital could not be confirmed.u00a0Meanwhile, the Wadkhal police have arrested the driver and have registered a case under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. u00a0
