"Defiant" Kejriwal ready to launch another agitation, to end fast today

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal, who is now geared up for the next stage of his civil disobedience movement, will end his two-week long fast against inflated power and water bills at 5 pm today.

Kejriwal yesterday appealed to the residents of the national capital to help his team in reconnecting the power supply to homes that are without electricity because of unpaid bills during the next stage of his movement.

A visibly weak Kejriwal, while announcing his future plans, also expressed his wish to end the fast after receiving a glass of juice from veteran social activist Anna Hazare.

He, however, said that Hazare would not be able to come to Delhi tomorrow as he was on his nationwide tour.

Kejriwal and Anna had split last September after disagreeing over whether their team should enter politics.

Kejriwal had earlier on Wednesday attributed the next course of his movement to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, and said that it would coincide with the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi completing his Dandi March.

"I want to appeal to the citizens of Delhi that on April 06 that in all those houses, where the government has disconnected the domestic connection of electricity, people should connect their electricity wires again and for that, our activists would encourage and assist the poor in reconnecting electricity by visiting slums," he said.

Kejriwal also said that his party would restore power and water connections that were disconnected by the authorities over non-payment of bills that he contended were inflated.

"The darkness spread by Sheila Dikshit in the houses of the poor by disconnecting electricity, I want to restore light in their houses.

I challenge Sheila Dikshit to deploy its entire police force in each lane of the city to stop people but public and activists will reconnect all the cut off connections, now this movement will enter in next phase with inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi," he added. u00a0
