Former Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) managing committee member and treasurer, Ravi Mandrekar has dramatically linked the delay in the announcement of MCA elections to Indian Premier League-10 ticket distribution among the current managing committee members.

Mandrekar indicated that the current regime wants one last bite of the pie that is on offer through tickets for next month’s IPL.
According to the Justice Lodha Panel, only those who fit the eligibility criteria can contest elections. Mandrekar, the secretary of Gaud Saraswat Cricket Club, revealed yesterday that he has written a letter to MCA’s president Ashish Shelar, warning him of potential illegal sale of tickets for the T20 extravaganza.
“Why do MCA managing committee members need 40-50 extra IPL tickets? The intention is very clear - to sell these tickets in black. The MCA is not conducting the election because each managing committee member will be richer by around Rs 2.5 lakh,” Mandrekar told mid-day.
Mumbai Indians are scheduled to play their seven home games at the Wankhede Stadium.
In his letter to Shelar (dated March 20, 2017), Mandrekar stressed that each managing committee member could get a minimum of 45 tickets for each match.
He wrote: “Managing committee members are trustees. They cannot benefit from trust property. They cannot take any extra benefit that (sic) those given to other beneficiaries. This extra allotment to managing committee members will be breach of trust on their part.”
Shelar told mid-day last night that he will announce the election date, “as and when it will be decided.”
He added: “I’ve yet to see this letter. I will go through it and let you know.”
