The 23-year-old medical student, who has been fighting for her life in a Delhi hospital since she was raped by six men on a moving bus 10 days ago, was shifted from Safdarjung Hospital in one of three ambulances belonging to the Medanta hospital last night.

Police cars escorted the ambulances. Eminent doctor Naresh Trehan reportedly escorted the victim out of the hospital, where she was in the ICU for the last 10 days.

She was flown to Mt Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore, a super-speciality institute that has expertise in organ transplants, along with her parents, and two doctors attending to her. The flight, with 10 people on board, took off at 11.30 pm.

Flying her abroad on an air ambulance was reportedly discussed by the cabinet at its meeting yesterday.

A passport and visa was arranged for her yesterday by the government.

For the first time yesterday, doctors attending to her failed to share a medical bulletin on her condition.

Across the country, thousands of people have been following those bulletins, telecast live on TV channels, hoping that the girl, described as a fighter by her doctors, is improving.

The condition of the 23-year-old victim, a physiotherapist from Uttar Pradesh, remained critical even 10 days after the sexual assault in a moving bus, as she spent a bulk of the time after December 16 on ventilator.

On Tuesday she gave a statement to a magistrate — for a second time following complaints of alleged police interference the first time it was recorded on December 21. All six accused have been arrested for the crime.u00a0
